Shelby McHugh
Singer-songwriter
Shelby McHugh is a country singer-songwriter from Princeton, New Jersey, whose music is rooted in real-life experiences, honest storytelling, and the emotions that come with growing up. Following modern country and Americana roots, Shelby writes songs about love, heartbreak, faith, and the moments in life that leave a lasting impact. Her goal is simple: to make music that feels real and reminds people that whatever they’re going through, they’re not alone.
Shelby’s love for music started early, beginning with piano lessons at just five years old. By middle school, she had started writing her own songs, discovering how music could give a voice to feelings that were sometimes difficult to put into words. What started as a creative outlet gradually became something much bigger: a dream of sharing her stories with people who might see a little bit of themselves in them.
Inspired by artists who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable and tell their stories honestly, Shelby brings a conversational, unfiltered approach to her songwriting. She draws inspiration from the highs and lows of everyday life, finding meaning in the experiences that shape us, even when they don’t make sense at the time.
Now pursuing her music career while building connections in Nashville’s songwriting community, Shelby continues to grow as both a writer and performer. From intimate acoustic sets to writers’ rounds, she enjoys sharing her original music in settings where the stories behind the songs can really connect with an audience. Through her releases and live performances, she hopes to create a space where people can feel understood, find comfort, and maybe even hear their own experiences reflected in her lyrics.
At the heart of everything Shelby does is her belief that the most meaningful songs come from being honest about who you are and what you’ve been through. Whether she’s writing about a relationship, navigating life’s uncertainties, or finding hope through faith, Shelby wants her music to feel like a conversation with a friend: imperfect, heartfelt, and real.
