Bryn Frye-Mason
Tattoo Artist
Bryn Frye-Mason is a non-binary, self-taught tattoo artist from New Mexico now residing in New York City (Harlem area). The inspiration behind their art emerged from the scribbles on the side of a notebook, and the ability for these scribbles to offer insight into each individuals unique perception of the world. Bryn likes to think that they created abstractions of the world as a personal mirror through which to see the universe and its many components. For Bryn, this means a lack of emphasis on bold, stagnant lines in order to grasp at the blurred distinctions between all things.
Bryn has been greatly inspired by Leibniz’s Monadology and the idea that each of us are perpetual, living mirrors of the infinite universe. Tattoos, to Bryn, can be a way for someone to choose how their own reflection will be perceived by themselves and the other “monads” that create our world.
“Just as the same city viewed from different directions appears entirely different, and, as it were, multiplied perspectively, in just the same way it happens that, because of the infinite multitude of simple substances, there are, as it were, just as many different universes, which are, nevertheless, only perspectives on a single one, corresponding to the different points of view of each monad”
